How to Choose a Permanent Lighting Installer in Omaha (2026 Checklist)

Permanent lighting is a strange purchase. It gets screwed to the front of your house and it's meant to stay there for a decade or more — yet most homeowners pick an installer the way they'd pick a pizza: three quotes, take the middle one. This is the guide we'd give a neighbor before they signed anything. It works whether or not you ever call us.

Why does the installer matter more than the brand?

Because the brands are more alike than the sales pitches suggest. We wrote a whole honest comparison of the permanent lighting brands and the conclusion was unglamorous: at the curb, your eyes can't reliably tell one manufacturer's red from another's. Sixteen million colors, an app, LEDs rated well past 50,000 hours — that's table stakes across the category now.

What is not table stakes is the design decision about which rooflines get lit and which stay dark. What should a real permanent lighting quote include?

A quote worth comparing tells you exactly what's being installed and what happens afterward. At minimum it should name the system and manufacturer, spell out which rooflines, peaks, and features are included (and which are excluded), state the track color, list the warranty terms on both the product and the labor, and confirm that the installer is insured. If a quote is a single number on a business card, you have nothing to compare — you have a guess.

What seven questions should I ask before I sign?

Ask every company the same seven. The answers sort the field quickly:

1. "Can I see a design rendering of my house before I commit?" You should approve a picture, not a promise. An installer who won't show you your own home in advance is asking you to buy blind.
2. "Can I see one of your local installs in daylight?" Every system looks magical at night. Noon is the honest hour — that's when a badly matched track announces itself across the fascia.
3. "Who makes this system, and where?" Distance matters for parts and warranty claims. Some systems are engineered locally; others ship from several states away through a dealer network.
4. "What exactly does the warranty cover, and for how long?" Get the product warranty and the labor warranty separately, in writing. They are usually not the same length.
5. "Who services this in year three, and what does a service call cost?" A ten-year product deserves a ten-year answer. Ask whether the company that sells it is the company that fixes it.
6. "Are you insured, and can you show me the certificate?" Crews work at height on your roofline. This is a yes-or-no question with only one acceptable answer.
7. "What's the track color, and how do you match it to my fascia?" Color-matching is the single most visible difference between a professional install and a regrettable one.

What are the red flags?

Pressure to sign today. A discount that only exists in this conversation. No rendering. No local daylight references. Vague answers about who manufactures the system. And the quiet one: an installer who never asks about your house — its trim color, its peaks, how you actually use the front of your home — before quoting a price. Design questions come before dollar figures at any company doing this well.

How do I judge the app and the everyday look?

Ask for the app in your hands at the consultation, not a video of it. Two things to check: whether the whites are genuinely tunable across the 2700K–5000K range — that's the difference between candlelight warmth and crisp modern white on ordinary evenings — and whether the holiday palettes are factory-matched to real decor colors, so December reads as designed rather than as a novelty. Most homeowners run their lights white or off eleven months a year. The everyday setting is the one that has to look right.
